Attention Teachers

did you know that our Forestry Department is available throughout the year to come and speak to your class or group about the importance of trees in our daily lives? During the month of April they can also do an Arbor Day presentation including the possibility of a tree planting and/or seedling giveaway.

Arbor Day is the national day to celebrate the importance of trees. Washington State celebrates arbor Day on the second Wednesday in April.

 

The Web site for the National Arbor Day Foundation has

  • Information for young children (preschool-grade 3), including a Nature Explore Club activity guide that parents can download and follow with their kids
  • Information for older kids (grade 4-up) such as Carly's Kid Corner that has activities to teach kids about trees and information on how kids can help the environment

The Society of American Foresters is a national and scientific organization representing the forestry profession in the United States.

 

The Web site for the Society of American Foresters has

  • Information for elementary, middle and high school students, such as topic ideas for science fair projects
  • Links to other fun sites, including the Treeture Web site where you create pages you can color and learn how to adopt a tree, and the Forest of Fun site, which is the national series of 4-H forestry activity books for grades 3-12.
