Oil
Seed Production
Producers in Spokane County and the PNW have begun making
the transition from conventional tillage farm operations to
the use of conservation tillage practices. Inherent in a direct
seed or conservation tillage program is the need for alternative
crops to help manage weed and disease cycles.
At the Spokane County Conservation District, we believe that
oilseed crops like mustard and canola can and will provide
our producers with the rotation crop they need to make their
conservation tillage operations successful. As such, the Production
Ag Department at SCCD is working with local producers and farmer-owned
cooperatives in the Pacific Northwest to make oilseeds a viable
industry in our region.
