FORESTRY VOLUNTEERS & EVENTS

The Forestry Department has many opportunities for those interested in assisting our efforts to protect and enhance urban and rural forests in the Spokane area. Our volunteer opportunities include planting, pruning, and tree stake removal. Volunteers will receive specialized training to help them conduct their work, such as proper planting and pruning techniques, and SCD will provide all necessary equipment.

The Forestry Department holds workshops and trainings at our office in cooperation with various groups, such as Community Canopy, WSU/Spokane County Extension and the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. We also participate in public events, so look for our booth at annual events such as: Ag Expo, various county fairs, Water Festival, Farm Fair and the Spokane Youth Environmental Conference.

Some of our most popular events are centered on celebrations for both Arbor and Earth Day. Washington State celebrates Arbor Day on the second Wednesday in April and is a day to celebrate the importance of trees in our lives.

In the past we have provided seedlings and planted trees for communities and organizations holding Arbor Day celebrations, including the cities of Airway Heights, Cheney, Spokane, and Millwood, and the ABC Discovery Child Care Center in downtown Spokane.

If you would like more information about our volunteer program or if you would like to schedule the Forestry Department to participate in an event, please contact Garth Davis. All dates and information for our activities and events, including workshops and trainings, will be posted on our Conservation Calendar!
