Tree Stories

The Spokane County Conservation District is collaborating with the Urban Forest Council in a Tree Stories program at area libraries and schools.

Marcie the Marvelous Tree book coverStaff from the Conservation District and volunteers will be reading Marcie the Marvelous Tree to pre-school aged children. Marcie the Marvelous Tree is an imagined story based on a real tree. Thirteen Girl Scouts planted Marcie, a California Sycamore tree, on May 9, 1987. The story of Marcie is designed to teach children about the importance of trees and basic tree care.

The Girl Scouts who planted Marcie created a non-profit group named Tree Musketeers. More than a million trees have been planted through the Tree Musketeers program in just the past seven years.

Upcoming readings:

Readings will commence again next spring.

For more information on the Tree Stories program, contact Garth Davis, SCCD Forestry Program Manager, at (509) 535-7274 or email the forester.
